UNCW: Men’s Soccer Game for Olivia
2023
On Saturday, September 2nd, the UNCW Men’s Soccer team hosted a meaningful and emotional “Teal Out” tribute game in honor of Olivia Grace Knighton. The game, played against Northeastern University at the UNCW Soccer Stadium, brought together students, families, and fans to celebrate Olivia’s memory and show unwavering support for the Knighton family.
The event was more than just a soccer match—it was a powerful display of love, unity, and community spirit. In a sea of teal, the official color of UNCW, attendees donned specially designed “Teal Out” t-shirts, which were sold at the game to raise funds for a scholarship in Olivia’s name. This scholarship will help future students pursue their dreams while keeping Olivia’s legacy alive within the Seahawk community.
From the players to the fans in the stands, the atmosphere was filled with compassion and camaraderie. The UNCW community, known for its strong bonds and generous spirit, rallied together to make the tribute a success. The overwhelming support demonstrated how sports can bring people closer, uniting them under a shared purpose to honor and remember someone who made an indelible impact on those around her.
The game served as a reminder of the strength found in togetherness and the power of honoring loved ones through acts of kindness and collective action. The “Teal Out” tribute not only celebrated Olivia’s life but also showcased the incredible heart of the UNCW community.
As the night came to a close, it was clear that Olivia’s legacy will live on—not just through the scholarship in her name but also in the love and unity displayed by everyone who came together for this special event.

UNCW Athletics and UNCW Men's Soccer hosted the 2nd annual “Olivia’s Game.” The Olivia Knighton Foundation is honored to establish the Olivia Knighton Endowed Scholarship for Men’s Soccer at UNCW this year. Men’s Soccer coach Aidan Heaney chose Men’s Soccer player #7 Osei G. to be the first recipient of the Olivia Knighton Scholarship. “Osei is from Kumasi, Ghana and graduated from Montverde Academy in Florida. He is the perfect candidate to receive the first Olivia Knighton Scholarship.
He is quiet, unassuming and always has a smile on his face. He is a joy to be around and like Olivia, just draws people to him. I couldn’t think of a better choice!” The Seahawks played hard, gave everyone an exciting game to watch, and won 4-0! Thank you to everyone involved in organizing and carrying out this amazing event!
